What Is Chiropractic Care?

Dr. Shephard will typically combine your chiropractic treatment with active release techniques soft tissue management system(ART), as well as Graston technique therapy to treat your condition more effectively and efficiently. The main principle behind this is as follows: a typical chiropractic treatment will align misaligned joints. This helps to reduce pain, increases range of motion and flexibility. When Dr. Shephard combines Chiropractic with ART or Graston or both, this will help take the tension off the muscles, ligaments, and tendons that influence the misaligned joints and the entire kinetic chain above or below the joint. This combined treatment will drastically speed up the healing process and help keep the chiropractic adjusted re-aligned joints stay aligned longer, allowing you to return to your activity sooner.

What are some of the conditions treated by a Chiropractor?

  • Back pain and neck pain
  • Knee injuries
  • Shoulder pain
  • Wrist pain
  • TMJ pain
  • Spine pain
  • Sciatica
  • Rib pain
  • Nerve pain

What is a chiropractic adjustment?

You may have often heard the term “adjustment” to describe a chiropractic treatment. An adjustment simply means using a highly-skilled, non-invasive, gentle, comfortable, and precisely controlled movement by the chiropractor’s hands or chiropractic instrument to re-position and restore normal function of the joint. This movement will help relieve chronic or acute pain, increase range of motion and flexibility.  The chiropractic adjustment is performed by a highly trained Doctor of Chiropractic that has a minimum of 8 years of training and several hundreds of hours of training even after completing chiropractic school. It makes sense to choose a Chiropractor you can trust, Dr. Shephard has 30 years of chiropractic experience.
Sometimes when receiving a chiropractic adjustment, you may hear a popping sound. Do not be alarmed as this sound is the release of nitrogen gas from the joint being adjusted. This sound is perfectly normal and harmless as chiropractic adjustments have been heavily researched and determined to be very safe.
